Renewing a Guestroom With Distinctive Bedding
Mother and daughter interior designer team Gina and Natasha Harris are living their dreams of working side-by-side in an interior design store that caters to both residential and commercial interior design. Four years ago, Seaside Interiors sprouted up on Beach Street, offering a furniture and fabric showroom. With the onset of summer, getting the guestroom ready can be done with ease.
Q: How do you utilize bedding when designing a bedroom or guestroom?
A: It’s all about creating the right mood with colors and textures. Great energy can sing through the room and give an instant lift to any bedroom. A new coverlet or duvet, throw on some different pillows and the room can become refreshed and renewed. Since fabrics and textiles are so important to us, and create such different moods, bedding, pillows and fabrics for custom furniture make up a big part of what we do.
Q: What are the basics for bedding
A: Something soft, beautiful and well made that expresses your personality. It is so important to pick colors that speak to you. One person might like a plain, simple linen that is super soft to the touch in this case one of our European linens in greys, whites or creams will create that that fluffy cloud bedding look. Then there are others who want vibrant splashes of color to bring a little more excitement to the room. We always collaborate with the client so we can create the perfect feel and look they are seeking.
Q: Why focus so much on the bedroom?
A: The bedroom is your sanctuary, your place to rest and restore and relax. Also when you are creating a space for your guest after a fun time at the beach, you are also giving them a place to relax and enjoy a private place away from everyone. That is equally important. Adding some candles, wonderful lamps and fresh flowers also brings added ambiance and an easy way to compliment the bedding with an elegance that flows throughout the home.
Q: You have an exclusive with John Robshaw bedding. What are his designs all about?
A: John works with local artisans in India where he puts his own spin on the traditional methods of fabric-making. Out of it comes “a vibrant mix of sophistication and romantic allure” where colors and textures are made into gorgeous fabric for bedding, pillows, tabletop, rugs, window sheers and more. We have also many other lines of fabric from around the world and numerous exclusives with other designers we have collected in our own private line.
Q: Both you and your daughter are very versatile, working small to large projects.
A: Even though our store has a very coastal, cottage feel to it, we do everything from quaint 700 square foot tree-house bungalows to $32 million Montage homes. The styles differ as much as the homes do, from beach and coastal to traditional, modern and European. I’ve been an interior designer for over 20 years and my daughter has worked alongside with some of the finest designers, such as Santa Monica’s Tim Clarke.
Q: Describe the essence of your store.
A: We love to travel and traverse the local streets and markets of Europe and other exotic places looking for objects and unique pieces to bring to our customers. Choose from antique bottles, salvaged iron and weathered detailing, oversized coral pieces, coffee table books, candles, wood bowls and gorgeous artifacts from around the world.
